Flying in Shadowlands

We’ve compiled the latest information regarding flight in the Shadowlands expansion.

Although we don’t have any information about what flight will look like in the new Shadowlands zones (if there’s to be flight at all), there have been many changes since the 9.0.1 systems patch went in.

As it currently stands, the minimum level to achieve flight in all pre-Shadowlands zones is level 30.  It is purchasable from any riding or flight trainer.  There are trainers in all major cities of both Horde and Alliance, but most players will be most familiar with Bralla Cloudwing in Stormwind, and Maztha in Orgrimmar.

Flight Skill Levels

Apprentice Riding

The initial level of riding allows you to ride ground mounts at +60% of your normal speed.  Players can unlock this automatically at Level 10.

Journeyman Riding

The upgrade to Apprentice Riding will allow you to ride ground mounts at +100% of your normal speed.  It is unlocked at Level 20 and costs 50 Gold.

Expert Riding

Expert Riding allows you to ride flying mounts at +150% of your normal speed.  It is unlocked at Level 30 and costs 250 Gold.  This level of riding does not allow flight within Warlords of Draenor or Legion content.

Draenor Pathfinder

Unlocked at Level 30 and costing 250 Gold, this “addon” to Expert Riding allows you to fly within Warlords of Draenor content.

Broken Isles Pathfinder

Also unlocked at Level 30 and costing 250 Gold, this allows you to fly within Legion content.

Master Riding

Unlocked at Level 40 and costing a whopping 5,000 Gold, this will allow you to ride and fly at the highest possible speed for your mount.

Note: Artisan Riding has been removed from Shadowlands.

Reputation Discounts

As was the case in the past, riding vendors associated with a faction will offer a discount based on your reputation level:

  • Friendly gives a 5% discount
  • Honored gives a 10% discount
  • Revered gives a 15% discount
  • Exalted gives a 20% discount

Flight within Shadowlands Zones

At this time, it is not yet known when or even if flying will be allowed in the new Shadowlands Zones.
